Meet Our Pastor

The Reverend Walter L. Parrish III, D.D.

The Reverend Doctor Walter L. Parrish III is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where he received the B.A. degree with a major in Accounting.  Upon graduation from college, Reverend Parrish worked as a Computer Analyst for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 1987 he received the Master of Divinity Degree from the Union Theological Seminary in New York City with highest honors.

While attending Union Theological Seminary, Doctor Parrish was called as the first African American Pastor of the Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York.  He served that congregation until 1990.  In October of 1990 he joined the staff of the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) of the American Baptist Churches, USA.

From 1990 to 2002 Reverend Parrish served in a variety of positions at MMBB, including Director of Field Services and Associate Executive Director.  During that time Reverend Parrish was instrumental in making retirement and health benefits available for historically black denominations which had never had such benefits.  These denominations include the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., The National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., and The National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.  As a result of this groundbreaking work, Reverend Parrish received the Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Virginia University in Lynchburg, VA in May of 2003.

In February of 2003, Parrish was called to serve as Interim Pastor of the historic Union Baptist Church of Montclair, New Jersey.  In May of that same year the church voted to call him as their eighth pastor.

In August 2009, Dr. Parrish was elected General Secretary of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. (PNBC) and he concluded his work there in 2011.

Dr. Parrish currently serves as the 5th Pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Parrish is a lifetime member of the Morehouse College Alumni Association and a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.  Additionally, Dr. Parrish has served as board member and officer of a number of community and religious groups.
